We all want to get ahead in life and to do so some of us come up with strategies that we think would propel us ahead of others, only to find out that they were self destructing strategies.
You see to get ahead, you must be willing to get down, to stoop low because the way up is down. And to be able to stoop low, you must be a selfless person, motivated by the passion to help others, make their lives a lot easier and more happier - without expecting anything in return.
The question - 'what is in it for me' should be alien to you - rather it should be ' what is in it for them' - the more you get out of your way to help someone else in return for nothing, then you have started your way up - that is the true essence of Altruism.
Jesus taught us to be able to in Matthew 7:12 that , "In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the prophets."
Meaning that whatever we do to others and some things, we ought to put ourselves in the people we are helping - because when they get ahead, we too get ahead. You have no idea who that person in front of you with a need is - they may be your next step on the rung of your ladder.
Whether it is our families, relationships, careers or ministries, we need to put others first and then God will help us get ahead in life. Its just those little acts of compassion that will help you get ahead.
Try it and you will see how far and faster you will go.
