About

Shiloh Church Guernsey consists of people who come from a variety of backgrounds, who accept that the Bible is true, and whose lives have been wonderfully changed (and continue to be changed) by God through a personal relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ.

Guernsey is a small island of 25 square miles situated near to the coast of France in the English Channel. The population of around 60,000 is mainly British in origin, and whilst loyal to the British Crown, has its own elected government. The main industries are banking and offshore finance, tourism and horticulture.

The church meets in a building that has been a centre of evangelical worship and teaching for over 100 years, but the congregation itself came into being in 1987. This was the result of the coming together of two Baptist churches that had experienced renewal in the Holy Spirit during the 1980’s. Many have since joined those founding members so that Shiloh today is very much a ‘gathered church’ of Christians from a variety of faith backgrounds as well as those who have made first-time commitments to Christ among us.

Our aim is to please the Lord in everything we do, and to share His love and the good news of Jesus in whatever way He opens up to us as individuals and as a church family. It is exciting to see how God has opened doors of opportunity both locally and overseas. The worshipping community numbers about 300 adults and many children, and the Sunday meetings are a joyful time of meeting together in worship, fellowship and teaching. As well as meeting three times on Sundays, we meet in smaller more informal groups during the week in various homes for prayer, Bible study, caring and encouragement. We also run the Alpha course as a means of enabling folk to explore the meaning of life. The church is affiliated to the Baptist Union of Great Britain, upholds the principles of the Mainstream network and is part of Guernsey's Evangelical Alliance.
